The weltschmerz and rancor I perceived in Debora Iyall's voice, whether it was actually there or just in my mind, drew me to Romeo Void, along with the intricate poetry and alternative jazzy instrumentation. "It's a Condition" is a marvelous showcase for that, a debut album that remains an unrecognised classic/5(8).

Dec 31,  · Two of Iyall's ex-bandmates, drummer Aaron Smith and saxophonist Benjamin Bossi, are along for the ride, although Bossi in particular is frustratingly underused. The songs on which he is featured, like "Chilly This Evening," are the best of the lot and unsurprisingly sound the most like Romeo Void.

Debora Iyall. Finally some space, some room to breathe in the title track. Carrie’s angular guitar figure scrapes majestically against Corin’s churning “bass” lines. And Carrie takes the insouciant vocal reins here, distinctly calling to mind Debora Iyall of the ‘80s band Romeo Void (think “Myself to Myself”), with detached aplomb.
